Best AI phone for photography: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra in Titanium Whitesilver

Released in early 2025, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a fantastic all-round flagship, but it’s in the cameras that Samsung’s ingenious AI really shines.

The quad cameras – including a showstopping 200MP main camera, 50MP ultra-wide, 50MP periscope and 10MP telephoto cameras – let you snap detailed shots wherever you are, but when the AI adjustments kick in, you get more lifelike images that don’t require extensive editing or tinkering. Nightography is a particular standout, leveraging AI multi-frame processing to generate photos with significantly less blur and distortion in low light conditions. If you’re feeling inspired by the night sky, this AI feature is an essential tool to have in your arsenal.

If you’re honing your video skills, Galaxy Log is there to help. It’s Samsung’s own version of the RAW file format, which supports more flexible editing of videos compared to typical MP4 files. Given that the Galaxy S25 Ultra can record up to 8K 30fps, too, there are few better smartphones for budding and expert filmmakers.

Once you reach the editing suite, you’ll find an even greater array of AI-ified tools. Audio Eraser can intelligently isolate and remove unwanted sounds from your videos, and ProScaler enhances footage to leave them looking picture-perfect. The best part? The S25 Ultra’s AI features can do all this while you hardly have to lift a finger; that’s what AI is all about.

Best Android phone for AI: Google Pixel 10 Pro

Google Pixel 10 Pro in Moonstone

The latest and greatest of Google phones, the Pixel 10 Pro’s similar design to the Pixel 9 Pro hides a wealth of AI features. Imbued with Gemini AI – which is so impressive that it’s also used by Honor and Samsung – this handset is a fantastic canvas for enhancing your productivity and creative pursuits.

Touching on Gemini for a minute, we came away very impressed by the updates made by Google to its flagship AI feature. Not only does Gemini continue to demonstrate greater intelligence when answering prompts, you also have Nano Banana, which can be used to create imaginative scenes and make detailed edits. Much of this is only possible because of the lightning-fast and powerful Tensor G5 chip under the hood.

Keeping on the photography and filmmaking train, the AI short video feature on the Pixel 10 Pro really blew us away. Simply provide a prompt and the 10 Pro will create a video, complete with sound, too. It’s great fun to play around with, but the productivity value of this feature shouldn’t be underestimated either. Have an idea you want to bring to life before starting a project? This is a brilliant way to visualise it.

We can’t talk about the Pixel 10 Pro’s AI capabilities without also mentioning Magic Cue. This feature helps bridge the gap between different sources of information on your phone, bringing them to the surface without having to scour around for what you need. Imagine a friend needs an address for a meet-up; Magic Cue will find the address so you can send it on. It truly is one of the best AI features we’ve used in recent years.

The bounty of AI features provided by the Pixel 10 Pro is industry-leading, but it might overwhelm at first.

Best iPhone for AI: iPhone 17 Pro Max

iPhone 17 Pro Max in Cosmic Orange

The iPhone 17 Pro Max deftly combines outstanding performance and AI excellence, easily cementing it as our top AI iPhone choice. Largely this is down to Apple Intelligence which, despite not being as feature-rich as Google or Samsung’s AI suites, has received some noteworthy updates that iPhone users might find enticing.

One of the pillar AI features that arrived alongside iOS 26 is Live Translation. It makes communicating with people in different languages a breeze, and is baked into Messages, FaceTime and the Phone app for convenience. Live Translation’s core functionality works brilliantly, but the real magic happens when using it with AirPods Pro 3. Pop them in, let Live Translation do its thing, and communicate naturally in real time; a true science-fiction-made-real moment.

Visual Intelligence is another AI-powered feature that significantly improves productivity. It works in a similar vein to Google’s Magic Cue, enabling you to search for information from the screen you’re on. Press the screenshot button and the 17 Pro Max will help you learn more about the subject; you can even ask ChatGPT for more detail without having to open the ChatGPT app. Much like Live Translation, Visual Intelligence works like a dream thanks to the performance power provided by the A19 Pro CPU.

If you enjoy using your iPhone for creative purposes, the 17 Pro Max comes with updates to the Genmoji feature – which can be used to create unique emojis using AI – and Image Playground’s ChatGPT style suite. It’s incredibly satisfying to give Image Playground a prompt and get an AI-enhanced image back that looks like an oil painting.

  • The A19 Pro CPU provides true flagship performance

The 17 Pro Max has plenty of fantastic AI features, but you might want to consider the Pixel 10 Pro or Galaxy S25 Ultra if you want a deeper suite to work with.

Best AI assistant: HONOR Magic 7 Pro

HONOR Magic 7 Pro in Grey

Although not a household name, HONOR is the provider of one of the best AI phones on this list. We really recommend the HONOR Magic7 Pro if your budget can’t stretch to Apple, Google or Samsung’s flagship offerings – this isn’t a budget phone by any means, but you’re getting a fantastic AI-powered device for a little bit less.

At the heart of the Magic7 Pro’s AI suite is the Magic Portal. Like the Circle to Search functionality that you’ll find on many AI phones, opening the Magic Portal requires a simple circle gesture on the screen, at which point you can conveniently access useful information without having to open a separate browser.

One of the more unique AI features on the Magic7 Pro is AI Deepfake Detection. This tool will alert you of any deepfake concerns in an image or video, giving you peace of mind when talking to someone via video call. Deepfakes have become a modern challenge as AI grows smarter, so we have to give HONOR plaudits here for attempting to counter the issue.

The rest of the Magic7 Pro’s AI toolkit will be familiar to those that have experienced AI phones before, but that in itself is a win given the handset’s slightly more affordable price. You’re getting a full, feature-rich suite that’s comparable to many top smartphones on the market, including AI Translation, support for Gemini, and AI editing of photos. It might not be a familiar name, but don’t pass up the HONOR Magic7 Pro if you’re starting your AI-powered journey.

  • Release date: January 2025
  • Dimensions: 162.7 x 77.1 x 8.8mm
  • Weight: 223g
  • Display size and resolution: 6.8-inch OLED (1280 x 2800)
  • OS: Android 15
  • Refresh rate: Up to 120Hz
  • Storage: 512GB
  • CPU: Snapdragon 8 Elite
  • RAM: 12GB
  • Battery: 5,270mAh
  • Rear cameras: 50MP wide + 50MP ultra-wide + 200MP telephoto
  • Front camera: 50MP
  • IP rating: IP68
  • You won’t find many other phones with features like AI Deepfake Detection
  • The breadth of AI tools available is incredibly impressive for the price
  • Everything runs smoothly thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU

The HONOR Magic7 Pro runs on MagicOS 9, their custom build on top of Android 15, which might take some time getting used to if you’re more familiar with Apple, Samsung or Google handsets.

Best flip phone for AI: Motorola Razr 60 Ultra

Motorola Razr 60 Ultra in Mountain Trail

There’s something very nostalgic about Motorola phones that makes them a joy to use to this day. The brand has a long history in the mobile phone space, and the Razr 60 Ultra taps into that legacy while providing a modern, AI-fuelled spin on the classic flip phone.

Powering much of the Razr 60 Ultra’s AI suite is moto ai, which serves up some unique features like Playlist Studio and Look & Talk. The former will help you create the ideal ambience for a setting, for example if you’re planning a party, while Look & Talk can be used to communicate with your phone by simply looking at it. Combined with the Razr 60 Ultra’s flip design, we loved being able to angle the phone for easy reading and then ask the 60 Ultra to look up information; it all works together so effortlessly.

The Update Me feature is similarly brilliant for interacting with the 60 Ultra hands-free. You can say “update me” and the 60 Ultra will summarise your notifications without needing to read through each one. Again, this is very satisfying to do when using the phone’s flip form factor.

So, if you’re thinking of returning to the classic flip design, we absolutely recommend the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra. Its fantastic suite of AI features is a satisfying cherry on top of a stunning dessert.

  • OS: Android 15
  • Refresh rate: Up to 165Hz (main & cover screens)
  • Storage: 512GB
  • CPU: Snapdragon 8 Elite
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Battery: 4,700mAh
  • Rear cameras: 50MP main + 50MP ultra-wide
  • Front camera: 50MP
  • IP rating: IP48
  • The flip design can be leveraged alongside the AI features for a unique smartphone experience
  • Playlist Studio, Look & Talk and Update Me are extremely useful
  • Google Gemini is also included, bringing with it enhanced functionality

You’ll find more generative AI features on devices like the iPhone 17 Pro Max; functionality over creativity is the focus here.

Best foldable phone for AI: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 in Blue Shadow

If you prefer the larger display experience of a foldable phone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is the handset of choice. It cleverly makes use of the folding design to further enhance the AI features on show, some of which will likely be gamechangers for the photographers out there.

A perfect example of this is the Suggest Erases feature, which can be found in Generative Edit. On paper the feature is simple: you tap the button and the Z Fold7 will suggest what to erase from your photo. However, when you factor in the unfolded screen, things become significantly more interesting. From this screen, you can compare before and after the edits without needing to remember what it looked like, which makes landing on a final result you’re happy with much easier.

Gemini Live also gets a unique twist thanks to the unfolded display. The larger amount of space that’s available allows for easier prompting and discussions with Gemini; something that a typical smartphone screen can’t offer. Not only that, the Now Brief feature that gives you a detailed summary of your day is much easier to look at and digest.

  • Release date: July 2025
  • Dimensions: 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9mm (folded), 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.2mm (unfolded)
  • Weight: 215g
  • Display size and resolution: 6.5-inch AMOLED main screen (2520 x 1080), 8-inch AMOLED unfolded screen (2184 x 1968)
  • OS: Android 16
  • Refresh rate: Up to 120Hz
  • Storage: 256GB, 512GB or 1TB
  • CPU: Snapdragon 8 Elite
  • RAM: 12GB
  • Battery: 4,400mAh
  • Rear cameras: 200MP wide + 12MP ultra-wide + 10MP telephoto
  • Front camera: 10MP
  • IP rating: IP48
  • The 8-inch unfolded display and Suggest Erases feature are a delightful combination
  • Gemini Live can provide more information thanks to the larger screen

If you don’t need a display experience of this size – but still want to enjoy everything that AI has to offer – consider choosing an AI phone with a smaller footprint, like the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra.
