Samsung’s Galaxy AI features – so far
Search
Galaxy AI has helped to reimagine mobile browsing, whether you’re looking for directions, new music or ingredients for a new dish. It introduced visual and contextual capabilities that add depth as well as speed to browsing: if typing out your query isn’t your bag, you can simply search by image in seconds, instead.
Circle to Search
One of our favourite features is Circle to Search. This particular tool lets you hold down the home button (or gesture area), circle anything on screen like an image, word or a product, and then receive a quick Google Search result without having to switch apps.
Whether you spot a pair of shoes on Instagram or can’t put your finger on an actor in your favourite film, it’s never been easier to look something up mid-scroll. This kind of feature cuts down on app-switching and makes search feel more effortless than ever.
Samsung have gone to lengths to make sure Circle to Search feels seamless. Created in collaboration with Google Gemini, images are recognised extremely quickly, so you’ll get the result you’re looking for in seconds.
Browsing Assist
Another time saver is the Browsing Assist feature. This tool automatically summarises long webpages or articles, then highlights the key points in the format of a short paragraph or bullet points. It saves time if you’re trying to get the gist of a longer piece without lots of reading – and it’s particularly useful for research, shopping comparisons, or catching up on the news.
You can also adjust the tone of summaries to match your reading preference. Galaxy AI offers a few options to suit your style, whether you’re aiming for a comprehensive summary or something a little more concise. It’s easy to change your preference, so if you’re speed-reading or need a little more detail, you can switch up without any problems.
Voice recording and notes
It doesn’t stop there; Galaxy AI turns simple recording tools into a full-blown suite of productivity-enhancing tools. Voice notes are also smarter and more practical, no matter what you use them for.
Transcript Assist & Summarise Notes
If you’ve ever tried scribbling notes during a meeting or interview, you’ll know it can quickly become a difficult task. Transcript Assist is a lifesaver for important calls or conversations, helping you focus by identifying the speaker and recording them in full. Galaxy AI can transcribe your voice recordings in real time, and categorise key information such as dates, action points and names automatically.
Once you’ve finished recording, Galaxy AI can also summarise your notes and give you a brief highlight of what was said. It’s perfect for reviewing long meetings in seconds, or turning chaotic brain dumps into something you can easily reach for and use again. You’ll receive a short and sweet summary of the conversation: a dream for students, it’s there to essentially write and make sense of your notes for you.
Typing and call aids
AI-powered typing enhancements are integrated into Samsung Keyboard, offering real-time assistance as you text, write emails, or take notes.
Tone Suggestion
A standout here for us is Tone Suggestion, Samsung’s version of smart rewriting. You write your message, then pick the tone of your choice depending on the situation. Whether you’re aiming for formal, friendly or polite, your AI assistant will soften or adjust the wording accordingly.
It’s especially helpful when you're replying to work messages in a rush or trying not to sound too abrupt in texts. A blunt “Not available” becomes “I’m really sorry, but I won’t be able to make it” with a single tap.
Live Translate
Galaxy AI isn’t just a fun extra; it’s integrated into every action you can take on your phone. Built directly into Messages and Phone, Live Translate lets you communicate via bilingual conversations in real time. Start a text or call and Galaxy AI translates what’s said or written into your preferred language and vice versa for your contact.
This feature is amazing for both travel and global work calls, breaking down language barriers on the fly. As of July 2025, Live Translate is supported in more than 16 languages, with more integrations planned in future updates.
Interpreter Mode
Perfect for in-person conversations, Interpreter Mode provides split-screen translations to show what’s said in both languages live. Each party gets their own translation, either spoken aloud or displayed. It’s fast, accurate and doesn’t require a third-party app: game-changing for anyone trying to navigate real-time conversations in another language.
Image editing
Samsung are known for their camera technology, so it’s no surprise they’re integrating their powerful AI into both the photo editing suite and the camera lenses themselves. Photo tools have taken a leap forward with AI-powered editing that let you clean, streamline and enhance your shots with just a few taps.
Generative Edit
Generative Edit works like magic; you can select and move objects in your photos and Galaxy AI will fill in the background automatically, so there are no awkward gaps or edits. Removing a passer-by, shifting a subject slightly, or extending the sky in a landscape shot is incredibly easy with Generative Edit. It’s Photoshop-level editing for non-experts, accessible straight from your phone’s Gallery app.
Edit Suggestion
Even if you know something could improve your photo but you’re not sure where to start, this feature has you covered. Edit Suggestion uses AI to offer smart improvements to photos, like brightening shadows, adjusting colours or cropping awkward compositions. All suggestions are non-destructive – meaning they’re not permanent unless you want them to be - so you can experiment risk-free. If you don’t like the result, you can always revert to your original and start creating again scot-free.
Gemini voice commands
Samsung has carefully woven Google’s Gemini AI into its voice-based assistance, which works side-by-side with Samsung’s native apps.
Ask Gemini
Using Gemini Voice, you can ask complex voice requests like “plan a weekend trip to Edinburgh with museums and outdoor hikes” or “write a caption for this photo in a funny tone.” The tool leverages real-time understanding to write, research, plan and recommend ideas that are entirely personal to you. Building a picture of your contacts, plans and habits, Gemini will suggest options that you’re more likely to get the most out of.
Contextual Chat
One main drawback that previous iterations of voice assistants shared was a lack of context. Several updates were introduced so that when you open Gemini while using other apps, it can read what’s on-screen and respond accordingly. Ask questions about an open webpage or text from an email for quick and easy summaries. It’s a practical use of contextual AI that makes your voice assistant feel genuinely useful, not just performative.
