Ships, ferries &
cruise liners.

Using your phone while at sea can be very expensive because ferry and cruise operators often run their own satellite-based phone networks, which are far more expensive than land-based connections.

That’s why we recommend you don’t use your phone, and put it in flight/airplane mode until you get to shore.

Roaming at sea Cost

If you received an SMS indicating that you're traveling in a different country, it likely means that your phone has connected to a foreign network (which is also known as inadvertent Roaming). Inadvertent Roaming occurs when your phone unexpectedly connects to another network for example: when you're on a ferry, cruise ship, or near the border of another country while abroad.

If the connected country isn't included in our 50 free Roaming destinations, you will incur Roaming charges for that destination. To avoid extra charges, we suggest setting a bill cap, which you can adjust at any time. We also recommend turning off automatic network selection in your phone settings.
