Design
On the surface, the overall look of the Razr 60 Ultra appears to be nearly identical to its predecessor, the 50 Ultra , which is certainly no bad thing. The classic clamshell style features beautifully sleek, slightly curved edges with a thin bezel. With an immersive display taking up almost the whole cover screen – more on that later – it’s astonishing how many features Motorola have baked into this smaller-than-most design.
Motorola’s latest release has reimagined the Razr as a fashion statement, with four striking, Pantone-designed colourways to choose from. Each has a unique finish - from the deep green Scarab with its luxurious faux-suede to the smooth feel of the Mountain Trail wood. These premium textural finishes are a nice touch, standing out from the silky-smooth feel of other players in the smartphone market. One word of advice if you’re guilty of putting your phone down on whatever surface you can find like us, we found some of the materials - the faux suede in particular - attracts dust and stains more easily than a traditional glass back.
In terms of durability, the Razr 60 Ultra has been rated IP48, meaning it can handle short drops in water up to 1m, and survive interactions bigger than 1mm objects. For extra protection, the hinge has been completely redesigned and reinforced with titanium. It clips shut satisfyingly once you’ve finished using the unfolded screen and feels sturdy when you do so.
Display
Hold the phone in your hand, and the first thing you’ll notice is the external cover screen - which just happens to be one of our favourite features. Sitting at 4 inches, the display covers almost the entire screen, with only two hardly-noticeable camera lenses sitting in the bottom-right corner. It’s an ingeniously practical game-changer. With this minute display, you can fire off quick replies to messages, check maps, skip songs and more, without even needing to open your phone. We’re impressed by how bright and uncluttered the external display feels, even when you’re carrying out slightly heavier tasks like replying to emails or flipping through photos. If you really want to, you can even game on the cover screen – although when there’s a bigger internal display waiting for you, it seems a little unnecessary in our eyes.
When you do unfold the phone, you’re met with an immersive 7-inch inner pOLED display that offers vibrant colours and deep, rich tones. Motorola have engineered an almost invisible crease, with the fold line blending seamlessly into the screen. You can actually forget it’s there when you’re scrolling, which - paired with the boosted refresh rate of up to 165Hz - makes for a super-smooth experience that responds intuitively as you flip from app to app.
On that note – Motorola have upped their brightness game with this model, supporting an increased peak brightness of 4,500 nits on the internal display. When you’re using the phone, that means the crease is even harder to see – and it’s a definite step up from other handsets like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE at 2,600 nits.
Software & AI
Don’t let that sleek, slim first impression fool you: there's a whole host of upgraded features under the hood. Motorola’s approach to the Razr 60 Ultra is one of efficiency, with a refreshingly minimalist interface that’s free from the unnecessary pre-loaded apps that can clog up other phones.
This helps Motorola’s own features to come into their own, with Moto Actions really taking centre stage here. This unique software uses natural physical gestures to provide handy time-saving shortcuts, which, once you’re in the habit of them, make reaching the app you need even easier. Simply twist your wrist to launch the camera or slide down the power button to open your notifications: these are smart features that we found useful every single day, and make for greater accessibility, too.
The Razr 60 Ultra also features some of the same AI capabilities as its predecessor, with a few notable improvements through their new partnership with Perplexity AI for built-in AI features. There’s intelligent, helpful additions to try, like “Catch me up”, which summarises your notifications whilst you’ve been off your phone or in Do Not Disturb, or “Pay attention” which can transcribe and summarise live speech. They’re not as refined as some of the flagship AI features on offer from Samsung and Google, but we still found them useful day-to-day.
Performance
Running on Snapdragon 8 Elite, one of the most powerful smartphone processors on the market at the moment, the Razr 60 Ultra delivers in terms of performance. Motorola have gone all-out when it comes to memory and storage space, with 512GB of internal storage giving you plenty of room for apps, photos, videos and games. There’s 16GB of RAM squeezed in too, which keeps the phone running effortlessly.
With a smoothness that raises the bar for foldable phones, switching between inner and outer displays, multitasking across apps or even playing demanding mobile games is seamless. If you’re not used to using a flip phone day-to-day, you’ll be genuinely blown away with how easy is to switch from screen to screen. That superior processor keeps every frame moving responsively, with quick load times and very little lag.
Battery
Batteries are often slightly smaller in flip and fold phones, but the Razr 60 Ultra stands out as a masterclass in compact engineering.
Boosted by that hardworking, energy-efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, the phone’s 4,700mAh battery will last you well over a full day (24+ hours) with moderate use. You can power up quickly with 68W wired TurboPower charging that can bring you to full charge in less than an hour – a nice complement to the portable, convenient nature of this handset.
We’ve found that the using the incredible external display cleverly saves you more charge, too – and as we’ve mentioned above, there’s plenty to occupy you on that cover screen.
Security
When you rely on your phone for everything from mobile payments to secure work access, security is a non-negotiable, and the Razr 60 Ultra does a great job in keeping your personal data safe.
What really impressed us was the top-tier ThinkShield protection. This built-in platform features hardware-based security to protect against any threats and can be managed through the Moto Secure app, so you can always be in control of what you want to share.
With an added Face Scan feature and a fingerprint-reader, you’re getting best-in-class defence against both physical tampering and digital threats. Motorola also offers three years of security patches, which, whilst being slightly less than some other manufacturers, still gives you long-term protection.
Cameras
The Razr 60 Ultra’s camera is seamlessly integrated into the stunning cover screen, keeping the whole design sleek and stylish. With a high-resolution, dual-camera array of 50MP wide and ultra-wide lenses, you can snap beautiful, top-quality images in all lighting conditions. Another nice touch we like is the intuitive AI functionality in the camera app that offers smart suggestions to make sure you’re getting the perfect shots every time.
The true genius, however, lies in the phone’s ability to transform the powerful main camera into your selfie camera. It's been upgraded to 50MP from the 50 Ultra’s 32MP, making for crystal-clear shots – and the external display acts as a large handy viewfinder, levelling up your selfies and group photos.
Summary
The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra isn't just a foldable phone; it's a sleek, smart piece of mobile tech that makes a genuine case for moving away from the standard smartphone design.
It offers flagship speed, a display that rivals the best gaming phones, and a unique, compact shape with a brilliant external screen. If you value stylish design, pocketability, and a high-performance bit of tech, the Razr 60 Ultra is a fantastic choice.
