Design

While there's no drastic design upgrades from the Honor Magic 7 Pro, the small refinements made are only for the better. Dimensions have been slightly trimmed down, making this handset lighter and more compact than the Magic 7 Pro. A classic Honor feature, the curved edges of the frame mean it sits comfortably in your palm, making it easy to grip and use with one hand.

We also loved the physical AI button positioned on the side of the device, which will take you instantly to the phone's AI functions with a quick tap or longer press. Thanks to the range of AI features on offer – more on those later - the AI button feels like a genuinely helpful shortcut.

Honor offers three different colourways for the Magic 8 Pro: Sunrise Gold, Sky Cyan, and Black. With an understated feel compared to bolder colours like the Cosmic Orange of the iPhone 17 Pro, this is a clean and simple design that's perfectly in keeping with Honor's modern, AI-focused approach.

Display

The Magic 8 Pro’s 6.7-inch OLED display is, without a doubt, one of one of the most impressive on the market. Content feels rich and lifelike, with super-sharp details given more depth thanks to the thin bezel. With a peak brightness of 6,000 nits, you can check directions or line up the perfect shot even in bright, direct sunlight.

We can’t discuss Honor phones without mentioning the brand’s focus on eye comfort. The AI Eye Comfort Display features industry-first 4,320Hz PWM dimming; in real terms, that means you’ll get less of the screen flickering that can cause headaches and eye strain. We liked the Circadian Night Display technology too, which uses the time of day to adjust colours to better mimic natural viewing conditions – a nice touch for post-sunset scrollers.

Performance

Running on one of the best processors in the industry right now, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the Magic 8 Pro delivers flagship-level performance and more. This latest chip easily covers everything from demanding mobile gaming to cross-app multitasking with ease – and crucially, without the heating that makes earlier smartphones a pain to handle. In day-to-day use, the Magic 8 Pro feels effortlessly responsive; apps launch instantly, and there’s no slowing down when you’re jumping between browser tabs.

Gaming performance has been given an upgrade too, with specific AI upgrades that makes for lifelike visuals and super-fast frame rates. The result is smooth, rich play that almost feels the same as gaming on an actual handheld console.

Software & AI

Those AI features we touched on earlier are, in our eyes, some of the finest in the industry. By combining their own on-device AI functions and smart tools with Google’s Gemini assistant, Honor makes sure you’re getting the full flagship AI experience. We did notice some overlap in Honor and Google’s AI tools (such as their joint photo editing features) which can sometimes feel slightly more cluttered than needed. That being said, we understand why Honor are keen to showcase their own impressive AI work, and the features are all genuinely useful.

The dedicated AI button on the side of the device is the launchpad for most of these capabilities. You’re able to customise your AI shortcuts, connecting specific functions to different levels of pressure on the button, such as a double tap to bring up the camera and a long press to bring up the Google Lens function. While you’re limited to a set number of functions, it’s useful having the option to pick the tools you rely on the most, and pairing them with natural movements means this handset feels tailored and personal.

Honor have also matched the industry gold standard set by Samsung and Google for software support, promising 7 years of OS upgrades and security patches. This’ll mean your Magic 8 Pro will stay up-to-date and running smoothly with added protection for years to come.

Battery

Battery anxiety will be a thing of the past with Honor's latest handset. Thanks to the device’s massive 6,270mAh battery – one of the largest capacities you’ll find on the market right now – you can edit, stream, scroll, game, call and the battery just keeps going.

This power is partly due to the sheer capacity of the battery, but also to Honor’s AI power management system, which intelligently optimises energy consumption based on how you use your phone. By learning your habits, it shuts down the background processes you don’t need and instead re-allocates power to the apps you use more.

When you do eventually need to top up your charge, Honor hasn’t skimped either. This handset supports rapid 100W wired charging and equally fast 80W wireless charging.

Security

The Magic 8 Pro comes equipped with multiple layers of protection to keep your personal data secure, like fast fingerprint scanning and facial recognition that works in any lighting.

Honor also takes durability seriously with this device, boasting IP68, IP69 and IP69K certifications that will keep it protected from dust and water submersion. The Magic 8 Pro is also reinforced with Honor’s own NanoCrystal Shield technology to protect against inevitable scratches and scrapes, giving you added peace of mind.

Cameras

Externally, the Magic 8 Pro’s camera system features Honor’s classic one-of-a-kind ‘Star Wheel’ design; but internally, the hardware has been massively upgraded.

The real game-changer is the 200MP Ultra Night Telephoto Camera. In the dark, the difference was impressive; rather than grainy, blurry landscapes, the Magic 8 Pro captured crisp, detailed images with natural colours. This is thanks to the improved aperture, but also the AiMAGE Camera System, which uses built-in AI technology to enhance colours, textures and depth in low-light. Honor have also improved image stabilisation with an industry-leading CIPA 5.5 rating, meaning even landscape-heavy shots are produced in perfectly unpixellated detail.

Summary

Professional-quality camera, excellent battery life and a whole host of AI features to try; this is a phone that can do it all.
