Design

Offering a design that feels refined rather than reinvented, the Pixel 10a features a dynamic, completely flat design. Thanks to the fully flush camera on the back – a rarity among smartphones today – it feels designed with daily use in mind, perfect for slipping in pockets and bags. Slightly sleeker and lighter than the Pixel 9a, the upgraded Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the front adds genuine durability without taking away from the premium feel. An IP68 water and dust resistance rating boosts this toughness, helping the phone to handle the bumps and spills of everyday life.

The Pixel 10a is also Google’s most sustainable A-series phone yet, made with up to 36% recycled materials, which is a meaningful detail if, like us, you care about how your tech is made. With a lineup of four different fresh colourways - Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian - there’s an option for everyone, whether you prefer something bold and energetic or clean and sophisticated. We’re also really impressed with the attention to detail here, as the colourways even extend to the aluminium frame, giving the phone a truly finished look.

Display

In a world of brilliantly vibrant displays, the Google Pixel 10a’s 6.3-inch Actua pOLED screen is top-notch. Colours feel rich and natural, and the impressive clarity and detail on offer is on par with what you’d usually expect from a more premium flagship phone. So, whether you’re streaming, scrolling or gaming, content always looks great.

With a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, the display is 11% brighter than the Pixel 9a’s, making it sharp and easily readable, even in direct sunlight. Whilst only being a small change, we think it’s a genuinely useful upgrade; no more squinting at your screen trying to read a text on a bright day. At 6.3 inches, the display finds the perfect balance between immersive viewing and a compact size that’s easy to use on the go.

Performance

Unlike most Android phones, Google has engineered its own chipset to work perfectly with its software and AI features: powering the Pixel 10a is Google’s own Tensor G4 chip. The result is a phone that feels fast, fluid and optimised for everything you throw at it. In everyday use, the Pixel 10a is super smooth, apps open quickly and scrolling or switching between tabs feels effortless.

While the rest of the Pixel 10 series runs on the newer Tensor G5, the Pixel 10a’s Tensor G4 is there likely to keep the phone at a more affordable price point. In practice though, you won’t necessarily notice the difference, as the phone runs just as smoothly, with a 120Hz refresh rate. It's worth noting too that this chip is designed to handle the Pixel 10a’s excellent Gemini offering – more on that later – quickly and efficiently without overheating.

Software and AI

One of the biggest selling points of any Google phone is the software, and the Pixel 10a delivers one of the cleanest, most intuitive Android experiences out there. There’s no bloatware and no unnecessary apps - just a straightforward, considered interface that lets you get on with the things that matter most to you.

At the heart of it all is Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, which is deeply integrated throughout the entire phone. Whether you need it to summarise a long email or answer a quick question, it’s a genuinely useful tool to have to hand. The AI features extend well beyond the assistant too, with features like Circle to Search where you can instantly search whatever’s currently on your screen and Camera Coach that helps you line up every shot perfectly. With features this intuitive, it’s hard to imagine going without them.

Battery

Pixel 10a’s 5,100 mAh battery might not be the largest on the market right now, but it’s seriously capable, and the results speak for themselves. You can get a massive 31 hours of use on just a single charge; carrying you through a full day and then some without even needing to think about reaching for a cable.

If you need to stretch this even further, Extreme Battery Saver mode is there for those long trips or festival weekends. By prioritising only the essentials to keep you connected as long as possible, you can push those 31 hours to a huge 120 hours instead. When you do eventually need to top up, the Pixel 10a has had a handy upgrade here too, helping you get to 50% charge in around 30 minutes, so you’ll never be waiting long.

Security

Google takes security seriously, and the Pixel 10a is no different. At its core is the Titan M2 security chipset, working in the background to protect your personal data, passwords and important payment information. Thanks to Face and Fingerprint Unlock, only you can unlock your phone. That’s not all though; the phone can also automatically detect if it’s been stolen and lock itself down before anyone can access your data. In a genuine emergency, if you’re somewhere with no mobile signal or Wi-Fi, the Pixel 10a can even connect you to emergency services via satellite and share your location. It’s the kind of feature you hope you’ll never need but are very glad it’s there.

Google also guarantees seven years of OS upgrades, security patches, and new features that keep your phone feeling current long after you've bought it. In a world where phones can become outdated within just a few years, that kind of commitment makes the Pixel 10a a smart long-term investment.

Cameras

Whilst there’s not been a huge camera change between the Pixel 9a and the Pixel 10a, you’re still getting some outstanding camera performance. The dual rear camera set up, a 48MP wide lens paired with a 13MP ultrawide, might not be the highest in terms of specs, but Google’s real strength comes in how the Pixel 10a’s software and hardware work together. Shots are crisp, true to life, colours feel vivid, and the level of up-close-and-personal texture that can be captured is genuinely impressive.

The AI camera features are where things get exciting. Camera Coach analyses your scene in real time and offers guidance for framing and lighting to make sure you’re set up to get the perfect shot. Auto Best Take takes the stress out of group photos, combining the best expressions from a series of similar shots into one, so you can get everyone looking at the camera. Finally, Add Me goes one step further, letting you seamlessly insert yourself into the group photo; no more missing out on the holiday snaps because you’re the one taking the photo.

Summary

The Google Pixel 10a is a genuinely impressive all-rounder that punches well above its mid-range price. From its clean, durable design and brilliant display to its AI-powered camera system and long-lasting battery, it's a phone that covers every base without any compromise.
