Charges explained
Charging Information.
If an iD ‘pay monthly’ customer in the UK calls another eligible UK number, they’re charged or deducted in one second increments (rounded up to the nearest second). If the call lasts under 60 seconds, it gets rounded up to one minute.
Why are texts sometimes converted to picture messages?
Some types of phone and operating systems automatically convert texts into picture message. Older phones in particular will change a text into a picture message if it includes emoticons or emojis. Group texts, and text where you exceed your device’s character limit, may also be converted to picture messages. This is completely outside the control of iD, and when it happens you’ll be charged our UK picture message rate – even if you’ve got some of your allowance left.
Can I switch off the feature that converts texts to picture messages?
If you’ve got a Samsung Galaxy phone, try the following:
Go to Messaging > Settings > Text Messages > Input mode > then select Unicode (rather than Automatic).
If you want to turn off this feature on a different device, we recommend you refer to your user manual or get in touch with the manufacturer.
Charges to non-geographic numbers explained.
Call charges for 08, 09 and 118 service numbers (non-geographic calls) are made up of two parts: an access charge and a service charge.
The iD access charge is 45p.
*The service charge is set by the organisation you’re calling, and they need to let you know what this is.
By adding together the service charge and our access charge, you can quickly work out how much your non-geographic call will cost.
Out of plan charges for TakeAway customers.
If you use up any of your allowances on a Takeaway plan, you’ll then be charged normal out of plan rates. See our roaming call charges page for details.
These charges can be quite high, so to avoid them we suggest you buy an add-on, or turn off roaming in your device.
Advice to TakeAway customers buying add-ons.
You may still be charged out of plan rates even if you buy an add-on.
Not all add-ons can be used overseas. So if you’re a TakeAway customer, you must make sure that your add-on can be used for roaming in the country you’re in. If not, out of bundle charges will apply. See our roaming call charges page for details.
